I just had some great days in Seville, Spain, a very beautiful and tranquil city - yet still big and interesting enough to spend a lot of time in. The locals know how to enjoy life, inspired by the unique mix of a rich history, many architectural styles and diverse cultures.

Here's a 360° #PhotoSphere picture I shot at Alameda de Hercules, a relaxing spot near the centre where people go in the evenings to have tapas and drinks, and their children can play also: https://goo.gl/F3Oyae

"A good character is, in all cases, the fruit of personal exertion. It is not inherited from parents; it is not created by external advantages; it is no necessary appendage of birth, wealth, talents, or station; but it is the result of one's own endeavors - the fruit and reward of good principles manifested in a course of virtuous and honorable action."
- Joel Hawes, pastor

"Det finnes ingen historiske belegg eller overbevisende indikasjoner for så godt som alle aspekter ved Jesus, altså hans fødsel, gjerninger, helbredelser, undere, lære, omgangskrets og død. Dersom det for rundt 2000 år siden levde og døde en religiøst forvirret jøde i Palestina som aldri gjorde noe av det han har blitt tillagt - da er kristendommen totalt meningsløs."

In most Western countries people give less and less blood. Sweden are trying to fight this negative trend by doing at least two things:
1) After you donate, the county council will text you when your blood is used.
2) A website shows residents a live chart of how much blood is left.

Hopefully other countries will follow these examples and also come up with even more innovative ways to inspire people to donate blood. Article in The Independent: http://goo.gl/KNlx7F

Some people compare so-called honor violence with domestic violence. Activist and ex-Muslim Maryam Namazie explains the very important differences:

"Though the results may be the same, there are many differences in the acts of honor violence versus domestic violence. For one, with honor violence, multiple family members are almost always involved, which is not the case for domestic violence.Perpetrators of honor violence believe that their conduct is warranted — and perhaps even required — because of the victim’s behavior. With domestic violence, perpetrators know their actions are criminal and often feel guilty.

With honor violence, a perpetrator’s belief that his conduct is justified by the victim’s behavior is often shared by his family and community, both men and women. He may also have the support of his religious leaders and community. But a perpetrator of domestic violence will not typically enjoy the support or encouragement of either his or the victim’s family. His abusive conduct is not usually condoned by family or community."

I just watched the excellent BBC documentary series "The Power Of Nightmares" by Adam Curtis, about the connection between radical Islam and neoconservatives: https://goo.gl/XYv77s

"Both the Islamists and Neoconservatives were idealists who were born out of the failure of the liberal dream to build a better world. And both had a very similar explanation for what caused that failure. These two groups have changed the world, but not in the way that either intended.

Together, they created today's nightmare vision of a secret, organized evil that threatens the world. A fantasy that politicians then found restored their power and authority in a disillusioned age. And those with the darkest fears became the most powerful."

So do you want to work from e.g. Bali, like many people do? Check these links to get inspired:

Imagine yourself by beaches (http://j.mp/kc0iC4), and eating really cheap and delicious dishes (http://j.mp/jTT3SO).

A lot of people believe they can't do it, but if they actually see how easy it is, they would be surprised. A good book to get you seriously inspired is the updated edition of "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss.

I recommend anyone in their 20's to try living for a few years in other countries and different continents. And remember - almost anything is reversible, you can always go back if you don't like the lifestyle changes you try out. :)

"If you're only interacting with me through the Internet, your overall impression of me will be unnaturally lopsided because some aspects of my life won’t receive any meaningful expression through this medium. It may seem to almost have the intimacy of a face to face connection, but it’s not the same. Even though I’m very open about my life, there are gaping holes in what I choose to share publicly."
- Steve Pavlina in a blogpost: http://j.mp/kvPCBm

I think this goes for a lot of online communication, we really have to be careful about judging people solely by what we see they communicate online.

(For example I write very little about my part-time job as a weapons dealer, since I don't want people to compare me to Nicolas Cage.)

Tim Ferriss writes in The 4-Hour Workweek about dramatically increasing productivity:

There are two synergistic approaches for increasing productivity that are inversions of each other:
* Limit tasks to the important, to shorten work time - the 80/20 rule.
* Shorten work time to limit tasks to the important - Parkinson's Law.

The best solution is to use both together: Identify the few critical tasks that contribute most to your results, and then schedule them with very short and clear deadlines.

"What personal stories have you locked away in the secret vault of your mind, vowing never to share them publicly? What would shame you terribly if it were ever posted on the Internet and connected with your real name for anyone to see? What events or habits from your past or present would you feel embarrassed to talk about?

This is precisely what you need to share with others — openly and publicly."

"In song and in dance I express myself as a member of a higher community.
I have forgotten how to walk and speak. I am on the way toward flying into the air, dancing.
My very gestures express enchantment.
I feel myself a god.
Supernatural sounds emanate from me.
I walk about enchanted, in ecstasy, like the gods I saw walking in my dreams.
I am no longer an artist.
I have become a work of art."

"Transitions can be pretty tough. You may shed some tears along the way. But in the end, you’ll emerge in a much brighter place. Escaping a cocoon isn’t supposed to be easy — it’s the process of struggling to get out that makes you stronger for what lies ahead."

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

"Women are very sexual creatures on a fundamental, biological level. In fact, they probably enjoy sex even more than men. Ever notice how women moan much more during sex than men do? [..]

Unfortunately, the misogynistic systems of religion and society repress women’s sexuality, and because women tend to be social creatures, labels such as 'slut' or 'whore' have a strong, negative effect on them.

None of these penalties apply to men who have lots of sex. Thus, the supreme tragedy of the modern society is that men everywhere have more of a challenge in getting sex than they would if they were living back in pre-civilization times when women were wild and uninhibited. So your job as a man is to get around a woman's societal conditioning and draw out the natural woman within her."

"THE COOKIE THIEF

There’s a nice poem by Valerie Cox circulating on the Internet about a woman who bought some cookies and a book at an airport and sat down to read and nibble while waiting for her plane. She soon noticed a man sitting next to her, who casually took a cookie from the bag.

Although shocked and seething, the woman remained silent as the man, without the slightest sign of shame or gratitude, quietly helped himself, matching her cookie for cookie.

When there was one cookie left, she watched in amazement as he picked it up, smiled at her as if he were being gracious, and broke it in half. He ate one half and gave her the other. Congratulating herself for maintaining her cool, she said nothing to this rude cookie thief, astonished at the nerve of some people.

Later, when she was settling into her seat on the plane, she rummaged through her purse and discovered the bag of cookies she’d purchased, still unopened. The moral message is contained in the poem’s closing stanza:

'If mine are here,' she moaned with despair,
'Then the others were his, and he tried to share.'
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Being sure is not the same as being right. Certainty without humility can lead to self-righteousness that distorts our view and understanding of the world and of people.

Humility doesn’t require us to be equivocal or doubtful about our deepest convictions. What it asks is that we hold and advocate our beliefs without dismissing the possibility that others may be right instead.

Character counts.

Here's a very important motto I live by:

The limitations of other people are not yours - you can achieve something they thought impossible. Never assume something is out of your reach, try it first and actually find out for yourself where your current limits are.

Detroit is broken. Article in The Guardian: http://goo.gl/QVctL

Here's the coming timeline:
- 2013: bankruptcy
- 2022: organized crime takes over most of the city
- 2028: the police department creates a real Robocop (remember that RoboCop actually was from Detroit)

Excerpt from the article:
"Citizens wait 58 minutes for the police to respond to calls, compared to a national average of 11 minutes. Only a third of ambulances were in service in the first quarter of 2013. There are approximately 78,000 abandoned buildings in the city. The unemployment rate had nearly tripled since 2000 and the homicide rate was at its highest level in 40 years."
